I am typing this on Ubuntu 15.04 on my Lenovo T430 though. Ubuntu 15.04 just brings newer versions of software. There shouldn't be an issue upgrading between versions of Ubuntu either, not a hardware one at least, nor with drivers.

I will say that on every device I've installed Ubuntu on, wifi and networking works out of the box, no drivers necessary. I'm only hesitant because I've never used this specific device and it's not unheard of that some devices don't have working drivers to boot. The second question I don't know about entirely, but the fact that there's an alternative version with the same wifi card means it'll almost definitely work. The best way to download programs in Linux in general is through what's called a PPA, you can then use apt-get. Installation of most other programs is a little different.
